Corina Popescu, CEO of the state-owned company Electrica, hired as a consultant Madalina Dobrovolschi, a former journalist and former spokeswoman for President Klaus Iohannis. The company plans to create a foundation for Electrica to finance corporate social responsibility projects, a development for which Dobrovolschi is working on.

The information was confirmed for Economedia by Mădălina Dobrovolschi, who specified that she holds the position of senior consultant of the manager Corina Popescu, a position she got by participating in the competition for this job almost two months ago.

The Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy, is the largest shareholder of Electrica SA, with 48.7% of the shares, the rest being owned by private investors, according to the Bucharest Stock Exchange BVB.

“I have been passionate about this for many years, I really wanted, for me personally speaking, to complete my career with a project like this. I had a series of philanthropic actions planned for a long time now and my wish intersected with the plans of Corina Popescu from Electrica. It’s been her dream for many years to make a foundation at Electrica. Unfortunately, things were stagnant there, nothing had moved for about 4 years. So she contacted someone in the market – who was me – to take care of this. I’ve been there for two months. I went through a selection process, like any employee of the company. I am a senior consultant to the manager, I am Corina Popescu’s consultant in the communication area and this area of CSR – corporate social responsibility. I carry out communication activities in the CSR area. I basically help the company polish the communication process. All my recommendations came in the area of CSR “, said Mădălina Dobrovolschi for Economedia.

Dobrovolschi is practically outlining a project for the future foundation of Electrica, which will have corporate philanthropic activities, the main pillars that are taken into account being education, environment, society, energy poverty, dual education, or other areas related to the company profile.

“For two months I have been designing a draft statute for the foundation and it is under debate. At the board level, they approved the concept of the foundation, the idea that the company wants to make a foundation. But so far, it is not a final agreement because the statute is not ready either. At the moment, the foundation does not exist, it is just a project that I am building from the inside ‘, Dobrovolschi added.

Regarding the salary she receives from Electrica, Mădălina Dobrovolschi specified that it is ‘according to the salary scale’, which is not public.

According to Economedia, Madalina Dobrovolschi could be named head of this foundation. Dobrovolschi told Economedia that, at the moment, we could not say who would be president, because the foundation does not yet exist.’

The Electrica foundation does not have a budget yet. ‘The statute of the foundation is such that anyone can contribute through donations and sponsorships. I can’t bring funds from the company directly, it can be done only by opting to donate 20% of a company’s tax on profits, the amount designated as donations, as does any other company when it sponsors a foundation ‘, Dobrovolschi also declared.

Madalina Dobrovolschi announced in October 2020 that she was leaving Realitatea PLUS, where she moderated the show ‘The Laws of Power’, broadcasted in prime time. ‘The station has decided to change its editorial policy,’ Dobrovolschi said in a statement. Her show had among the largest audiences of the station.

Dobrovolschi made her debut at Realitatea PLUS in March 2020, after resigning from the position of spokesperson for President Klaus Iohannis.

She held this position since August 2016. At that time, the head state didn’t have a spokesperson since April 2015, when Tatiana Niculescu-Bran announced her resignation from the position.

Mădălina Dobrovolschi was also a journalist for the national broadcasting station TVR, and for B1 TV and Antena 3.

In the presidential elections campaign for 2014, she moderated, on B1 TV, the debate between candidates Klaus Iohannis and Victor Ponta.
