Sales of electric and hybrid cars has increased by 65% in the first three months compared to last year / Top best-selling green cars in Romania

Almost 2,500 new electric and hybrid cars were sold in Romania in the first three months of this year, up 65% from the same period in 2020, according to the Association of Car Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), consulted by Agerpres.

The market analysis shows that the share of new fully electric and hybrid cars in the total local car market reached 12.2% in the period January – March 2021, from 5.5% in the first quarter of last year.

Compared to da from the end of March 2020, in the first three months of this year, most new purchases were recorded in the category of full hybrid cars, respectively 1,722 units, an increase of 58.6%.

Also, sales of plug-in hybrid cars increased by 132.3% to 360 units, while full-electric models increasing by 52.2% to 414 units.

APIA statistics show that in the top of the most sold 100% electric cars, Volkswagen takes the first place with 123 units sold, followed by Peugeot, with 47 units, BMW (40), Renault (34), Hyundai (27), Mini ( 24), Nissan (20), Mazda (18), Opel (14) and Skoda (13).

At the same time, most full hybrid cars in Romania were sold by Toyota – with 1,422 units, Hyundai (178), Ford (44), Lexus (36), Honda (15), Renault (14), Subaru (9), Kia and Suzuki (two copies each).

According to the quoted source, in the top sales of plug-in hybrid cars, in the first quarter of 2021, Volvo was in the first position, with 73 units sold, and on the following places: Mercedes Benz (70), BMW (59), Renault ( 47), Mitsubishi (23), Ford (22), Porsche (13), Skoda (8), Mini and Volkswagen (seven units each).

APIA statistics show that, in March of this year, 827 new ecological cars were sold, an increase of 0.60% compared to February 2021, while the share of this type of vehicle in the total market decreased to 10, 7%, from 12.1%.
