More than 4,000 startups were looking for candidates in the first 6 months of this year, surpassing the figures for the similar period of 2020 by 52%. That is to say that the market has become hot again, and recruiters no longer face, as last year, an excess of applicants, but, on the contrary, in some areas, even an acute shortage of people willing to change jobs.

The number of startup companies now fighting side by side with multinational employers to attract candidates is all the more impressive as last year was not an easy one for start-up businesses that failed to consolidate their market position.

“Many small, newly established companies have had to work, in the last year, at minimum capacity, so as to maintain a more cost-effective structure. And this was seen in the volume of employment they made. In these conditions, the fact that over 4,000 businesses have filled at least one position from January to June says a lot not only about the confidence that entrepreneurs have in the recovery of the economy, but also about the fact that their activity is carried out, again. , in normal parameters or even at higher speeds than before 2020 ”, says Bogdan Badea, CEO of eJobs Romania.

Thus, from January to June, startups have opened 26,000 jobs. May was the richest in options for candidates, with over 7,200 jobs available on eJobs.ro, the largest online recruitment platform in Romania. 15% of the total number of jobs posted by startup employers in the first half were in services, 12.5% of those in retail, another 12% in construction. The food industry, IT / telecom, transport / logistics and tourism / HoReCa were other areas where companies established in the last two years and with less than 50 employees were looking for candidates.

“It simply came to our notice then. The studies we did last year showed a dramatic decline in candidates’ confidence in small employers and entrepreneurial companies, which they associated with a certain level of volatility and which apparently did not guarantee a stable, long-term job. as the multinationals do. And this was immediately reflected in the monthly number of applications they attracted. This year we seem to see a “rehabilitation” of the trust capital enjoyed by smaller employers: they registered, cumulatively, from January to June almost 800,000 applications versus 450,000, in the same period in 2020 “, Bogdan Badea added.

However, new companies now have much tougher competition in the labor market from multinationals, but also from employers abroad. Both have exponentially increased the number of jobs available in recent months, reaching up to 33,000 new positions per month.
