Job vacancies rose to 47,300 in the third quarter of this year

The number of job vacancies was 47,300 in the third quarter of this year, up 7,700 from the previous quarter, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics published Thursday and cited by Agerpres.

The job vacancy rate was 0.95%, up 0.15 percentage points from the previous quarter. Compared to the same quarter of 2020, the job vacancy rate increased by 0.14 percentage points and the number of job vacancies rose by 7,900.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS), in the third quarter of 2021, the highest job vacancy rates were recorded in public administration (2.05%), performing, cultural and recreational activities (1.81%) and health and social work (1.71%).

Manufacturing accounted for more than a fifth of total job vacancies (10,200 vacancies), with a rate of 0.94%. The budgetary sector accounted for just under a third of total job vacancies. Thus, 6,200 vacancies were in health and social care, 5,700 vacancies in public administration and 2,800 vacancies in education.

At the other end of the scale, the vacancy rate was lowest in mining and quarrying (0.16%), real estate (0.18%), and other service activities (0.21%).

The fewest job vacancies were in real estate (30 vacancies) and mining and quarrying and other service activities (100 vacancies for each section).

Compared with the previous quarter, most economic activities recorded increases in both the rate and number of job vacancies. Thus, the most relevant increases in the job vacancy rate were found in education (+0.57 percentage points), manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and financial intermediation and insurance (+0.21 percentage points for each section).

Significant decreases in the vacancy rate were observed in real estate (-0.18 percentage points), information and communication (-0.15 percentage points) and mining and quarrying (-0.10 percentage points). The number of job vacancies fell most in information & communication activities (200 vacancies).

Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, as in the comparison with the first period under review, most economic activities recorded increases in both the rate and number of job vacancies.

Thus, the most relevant increases in the job vacancy rate were in the production and supply of electricity, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+0.70 percentage points) and in entertainment, cultural and recreational activities (+0.53 percentage points).

In terms of job vacancies, the most significant increases were observed in manufacturing (+2,300 vacancies), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (1,200 vacancies), hotels and restaurants (1,000 vacancies) and health and social work (900 vacancies).

At the other end of the scale, the most significant decreases in both the rate and number of job vacancies were found in other service activities (-1.75 percentage points or 800 vacancies), administrative and support service activities (-0.13 percentage points or 300 vacancies) and mining and quarrying (-0.13 percentage points or 100 vacancies).

According to the NSI, in the third quarter of 2021, the highest values were recorded for specialist occupations in various fields of activity – major group 2, both in terms of the rate and the number of job vacancies (1.26%, i.e. 14,000 vacancies).

The lowest values of the two indicators were recorded for the occupations of skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fishing – major group 6 (0.53%, i.e. 100 vacancies) and members of the legislature, the executive, senior public administration officials, managers and senior civil servants – major group 1 (0.53%, i.e. 1,900 vacancies).
