As the world changes under the influence of trends, it is expected that the labor market will also change its course, and the most sought-after jobs will also change. According to HR company K2S, some of the most sought-after roles in the near future will be Chief Health & Wellbeing Officer, Digital Resource Conductor and Digital Resource Coordinator, “Director of Storytelling, Human AI Ambassador, Employee/Stakeholder Experience Director, and at different hierarchical levels “Specialist A. I.” (Artificial Intelligence), “Big Data Analyst”, “Digital Transformation Specialist”, or “Innovation Specialist” and “E-Commerce”.

At the same time, jobs such as “accountant”, “cashier”, “call center operator” or “data entry” and any other job that can be relatively easily replaced by artificial intelligence/robotic processes (AI/RPA) will be fewer and fewer in the next 4-5 years, reveals an analysis by HR solutions company K2S.

Most companies, both multinationals and Romanian entrepreneurs, are currently going through complex transformation processes, so the need for managers and specialists especially in roles related to transformation, digitization or innovation will lead to fierce competition on the labor market, the same analysis indicates.

According to ANOFM – National Agency for Employment, the unemployment rate in Romania recorded at the end of August 2021 (*according to the latest available data) reached a historical low (2.93%), which is 0.003 pp lower than in the previous month and 0.37 pp below the rate recorded in the same month in 2020.

“Competition in the labor market at the moment is not only at the level of the workforce made up of workers in various industries, but also at the levels of specialists and managers on various management levels,” according to K2S specialists.

The most active areas in the market that will transition most quickly to the new profiles and seek to accelerate business performance by adding new types of roles to the organization chart are the technology, retail, agribusiness, energy, financial services, healthcare, etc. sectors.

Under these circumstances, the local Executive Search, Recruitment & Selection market will also undergo a profound transformation, driven by the dynamics of companies in the economy. In the last 2 years, according to K2S estimates, this market has stagnated at an annual business volume of around 7 million euros. Out of a total of around 47 players in previous years, there are currently around 31 companies on the market specializing in this field. Of those that have disappeared from the market, some have been taken over, but most have been written off/become insolvent in the last two years.

Five big trends in the market in Q4 2021

  • Technology, digitalization and artificial intelligence (A.I.). With the Covid-19 pandemic, companies have adapted to meet new trends and technology has become a very important tool in recruitment. For example: profiling candidates according to psychological profiles, selecting candidates using robots, etc.
  • The strategic role of the HR department. Whereas before, the priorities of this department were linked to capability development, organizational development and efficiency or resource optimization, now components such as employee wellbeing, mindset and adapted leadership profile, diversity and inclusion, social impact, multi-generational management or people analytics have become priorities.
  • The employee experience (how they feel) at work has become a key element in attracting and retaining top performers in the context of a fast-paced lifestyle, where physical and mental health has risen as a priority, as well as competition in the labor market and the impact of technology. The element of wellbeing at work is closely linked to psychological safety and a work environment that encourages collaboration, the co-creation of real value, etc.
  • “Staff On Demand” (freelancers and project collaborators vs. permanent employees). Pandemics and the possibility of remote working have accelerated this trend started by organizations – unicorns, where both employers and previously employed people increasingly prefer this form of collaboration for certain roles. This brings both financial benefits and benefits related to the freedom to work on several different projects at once, spend time with family, etc. Specialist recruitment companies will also start to offer this type of alternative to the traditional workforce, K2S specialists point out.
  • Focus on ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) component. General sustainability trends and concerns, as well as international accountability targets, are accelerating companies’ focus on environmental and social responsibility components. Thus, many companies have already implemented roles such as Director or ESG Specialist in their organization charts. This trend will continue in all areas of activity, the analysis shows.
